Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) Child & Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) is seeking an energetic and experienced nursing leader to head up, support and manage the teams working with young people and families in the 12-bed CYMHS inpatient unit, located on the Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospital campus.

About the organisation

The Brolga Unit is a tertiary / state-wide innovative child and adolescent mental health inpatient unit focused on providing high engagement, individual and family-focused therapy in an inpatient setting for young people aged 12-17 years who are experiencing mental health problems.

The successful applicant would also be an integral member of an executive CYMHS group which manages a broad spectrum of child and youth mental health clinical services including community-based CYMHS teams; Coral Tree Family Admission Service; Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Services; Got-IT; School Link; a Youth Response Team, Outreach Service; Early Psychosis teams; and an emerging Peer Workforce. NSLHD CYMHS is an active part of the NSLHD Mental Health Drug and Alcohol Service Executive and has a strong track record of trauma-informed, person and family-centred care; excellence in service delivery; innovation in clinical service design and professional development of all staff.

About the role

The NSLHD Nursing and Midwifery Workforce will be compassionate, competent, confident, contemporary, capable and committed to leading person-centred health care.

As a leader you will play a pivotal part in excellent service delivery and best consumer outcomes which are in line with aims and objects of NSLHD.

You are expected to support the Unit achieve and maintain a positive health and safety culture in the workplace and to consult with workers and others when making decisions that may impact upon the health, safety and welfare of those in the workplace.

About you

All NSW Health workers are required to have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by 30 September 2021 and two doses by 30 November 2021 or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

Qualifications and experience

  • Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the core values of our organisation; collaboration, openness, respect and empowerment. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them.
  • Registered Nurse-Division 1 with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) and relevant management tertiary qualification OR equivalent work experience, OR a combination of study and work experience; and demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, manage and support a clinical team.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy in Microsoft Applications, roster management systems and electronic medical records.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in change management and initiating a new service delivery model within an established service.
  • Evidence of and commitment to patient/customer focused care, clinical governance and quality improvement.
