Nurse Educator SIG
The ACMHN Mental Health Nurse Educator Special Interest Group (NE SIG) provides a forum for mental health nurse educators, no matter their role in mental health nurse education. Although there are other professional groups in education to date, there hasn’t been one specifically addressing issues relating to mental health nursing. This SIG is an opportunity for specialist mental health nursing education to fill the gap for educators across Australia.
Meetings will predominately be virtual; however once face-to-face forums recommence, it is anticipated members will be able to meet at ACMHN events.

Julie is a Clinical Nurse Educator with the Tasmanian Health Service. Originally from New Zealand, Julie has had a variety of roles at all levels of nursing, including as a clinical nurse and in management and education. She is passionate about progressing mental health in all areas of practice with a strong belief in collaboration and recognising the work that mental health nurses do. Her practice is strongly focused on enhancing mental health as a specialty area and most importantly supporting other MHNs to achieve top of scope of practice.
Opportunities for learning are important and have included areas of tropical medicine, adult education, and rural and remote mental health. She has recently commenced a PhD at James Cook University with the title "An Exploration of the Role of Community and Recreational Activities on Mental Health to Frame a Model of Connectedness and Social Resilience in Tasmania".
When not nursing, her passions are traditional (tall ship) sailing and marine conservation.
