The Department of Health is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Director of Nursing - Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services vacancy.


Please note this position is also being advertised as an Allied Health Director - Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (527492d) and two positions (one position in the South and one position in the North/North West) will be filled on merit.


  • Location: Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services – South, North and North West
  • Base Salary: $128,929 per annum + 10.5% superannuation
    • Please note that the successful applicant will be eligible to be paid a Community Mental Health Multidisciplinary Allowance.
    • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service Agreement) 2019
    • In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
      • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 7.5% based on qualification type
      • Professional Development Allowance of up to $750 per annum

About the organisation

  • Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) within a geographical area of either South or North/North West
  • Statewide professional leadership (either Nursing or Allied Health)

About the role

  • Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in contemporary child and adolescent mental Health nursing management practice at a senior level, including clinical governance; clinical risk management; evidenced based practice; research; clinical standards; ethics; and legislation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of specified specialist practise setting(s) together with an extensive knowledge and understanding of the range of complex management and clinical issues relating to a diverse health care service.
  • Comprehensive understanding of, and experience in, leading and implementing contemporary, integrated, consumer focussed care across a number of relevant specialist practise settings.
  • Proven high level experience and ability in managing human, financial and material resources including the capacity to measure and monitor outcomes to optimise overall service efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Proven leadership qualities with the capacity to impart vision and demonstrated skills in relation to change management and the development and achievement of strategic long-term service goals.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication, collaboration, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, including the capacity to exercise sound judgment and solve problems.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in implementation and maintenance of accreditation and quality standards compliance as this relates to the delivery of health services.

The Tasmanian Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Nursing - (CAMHS) who bring:

  • Strong strategic operational management and professional leadership skills
  • High-level operational experience in managing change within a dynamic team culture and multidisciplinary workforce
  • Experience in Child and Adolescent Community and/or inpatient/forensic/out of home care mental health service delivery contexts 
  • Solution-focused approaches to all facets of service delivery and change management to meet current and future priorities, together with ensuring high quality service provision to children, adolescents and youth, their families and carers.

  • Permanent, full time, day work position working 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible.
    *notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant
