We are delighted to welcome Nurse Manager Teri Ekanayake and Peer Support Worker Daniel Cazangui to present on the mental health court system within Perth metro areas, Start Court. This event promises to provide a comprehensive overview of this valuable service, tracing its inception, evolution and the impact for consumers. Speaker Bio: Teri Ekanayake
Teri Ekanayake, Nurse Manager, Diversion Courts, State Forensic Mental Health Services.
Teri trained as a mental health nurse in London in the late 1990’s.  In the UK, she worked in various areas of mental health, including acute adult inpatient, community, pharmaceutical, forensic and Therapeutic Communities and specialised in the treatment and support of emerging and severe personality disorders.  In 2008, she completed a Master of Arts in Psychodynamic Psychosocial Nursing.  She moved to Australia in 2009 and since has worked for the State Forensic Mental Health Service and within the Diversion Courts since 2014.  She is passionate about a working alongside users of mental health services in supporting mental wellness.

Speaker Bio: Daniel Cazangiu

Daniel, a former juvenile and adult offender turned advocate, leverages his traumatic past and recovery journey to support others as a peer worker at Outcare for the START mental health court. His lived experience guides participants toward positive outcomes. Active in the AOD recovery community and a lived experience representative, Daniel champions systemic change. His resilience and empathy offer hope, illustrating the transformative power of personal growth and community support in rehabilitation.
