About the event

The Victorian Branch of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses will be holding an online meeting via Zoom from 6:00pm (AEDT) on Wednesday 3 November. The event is a great opportunity for local members and guests to come together and hear a presentation from ACMHN President, Mike Hazelton.

About the presenter:

Mike Hazelton is the President of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses and holds the positions of Conjoint Professor at the University of Newcastle and Adjunct Professor at Charles Sturt University. Mike is a Credentialed Mental Health Nurse, a Fellow and Life Member of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses, and an Honorary Fellow of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Foundation of Ghana. Mike has a research background in qualitative and quantitative methods, has published over 100 journal articles, books, book chapters, and abstracts, and has undertaken consultancies for State and Commonwealth governments in Australia. He is a past editor of the International Journal of Mental Health Nursing, a current member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, and was a member of the expert committee that guided the development of the NHMRC Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of Borderline Personality Disorder. 

Mike’s clinical work has included the delivery of psychosocial interventions such as dialectical behaviour therapy and group-based cognitive behaviour therapy. He is an accredited Mental Health First Aid Principal Master Instructor and has provided mental health first aid training to university students and staff, pharmacy staff, defense force personnel, and community members since 2009. Mike has supervised over 20 PhD students to completion and received various awards for research. Mike’s research interests include borderline personality disorder and mental health and human rights. In 2019 he was appointed Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) Awareness Week 2019 Ambassador by the Australian BPD Foundation.
