AOD and Mental Health: Recommendations from the Royal Commission - hosted by Victorian Branch
The Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System proposed a number of recommendations, including service integration. But what does the concept of service integration mean to nurses working in mental health and alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment? We know that a high proportion of consumers of mental health services have a comorbid alcohol and/or substance use disorder, and this presentation will explore the concept of service integration and the implications for mental health and AOD nurses, as well as future opportunities for the successful integration of holistic care for mental and physical ill health, alcohol and/or drug use.
Presenter: Dr Adam Searby, Executive Dean Health Research Fellow, Deakin University
Dr Adam Searby has worked clinically in mental health and alcohol and other drug settings and is currently a research fellow at Deakin University in Melbourne. Adam has completed research into the alcohol and other drug nursing workforce in Australia and New Zealand, including the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has recently commenced work on a project examining alcohol consumption among Australian nurses and the utility of technology-based interventions to address high-risk alcohol consumption among nurses. Adam is the current president of the Drug and Alcohol Nurses of Australasia (DANA).
